Dominican Republic: one of the most affected country by violence
The Dominican Republic is the Latin American country most threatened by drug trafficking and illegal arms trafficking because of the geographical location of the island. Besides, the borders are the areas with the high rate of offenses.
Some of the main factors contributing to the high rates of crime are unemployment, domestic violence, large-scale migration to urban areas, the alcohol and drug abuse, drug trafficking and arms availability.
The Armed Forces Minister, Pared Perez said that in recent years have increased capacity at the borders and that they have gotten support from countries that are linked with the threats that Dominicans suffer .
